Kelly Overcomes Early Setbacks, Battles Back at Mobile International Speedway

MOBILE, Ala. — Colton Kelly showed resilience and determination this past weekend at Mobile International Speedway, overcoming multiple mechanical setbacks to turn laps and gain valuable experience.

The weekend presented challenges from the start, as a blown engine during practice on Thursday forced Kelly to miss competition at Five Flags Speedway on Friday. Despite the setback, Kelly’s crew — including Eddie Hollingsworth, David Epps, T.M. Motorsports, and Gene Eubanks — worked tirelessly to get the car repaired and ready for Saturday’s event at Mobile.

Saturday brought another hurdle when a distributor gear failure threatened to sideline the No. 18 entry. Once again, the team responded quickly, making the necessary repairs to get Kelly back on track in time for qualifying.

Kelly delivered a strong qualifying effort, securing the second starting position in a competitive 11-car field.

At the drop of the green flag, a missed shift on the start forced Kelly to the rear of the field. Refusing to give up, the young driver methodically worked his way back through the pack, ultimately finishing sixth.

While the result did not reflect the team’s potential, the weekend highlighted Kelly’s perseverance and the strength of the group behind him.

“It was a tough weekend for us, but that’s all part of racing and we’ll keep building from it,” Kelly said. “I’m really thankful for our crew for all the work they put in to get us back on track. We’ll keep learning and come back stronger.”

Each race continues to provide valuable experience for Kelly as he develops his racecraft and advances in the competitive Pro Late Model ranks. Up next, Montgomery Motor Speedway on May 2nd.
